Calling all writers and horror artists!

Horror in the Hammer's independent horror zine SCREAM SCENE is seeking articles, interviews, and artwork for publication in our 2012 June issue. To celebrate the 3rd anniversary of Horror in the Hammer, the June 2012 issue will be a celebration of do-it-yourself horror and an exploration of art and independence in the horror genre.

We're seeking seeking the following related material:

Articles about independent horror film or fiction and filmmakers or writers, etc.

Interviews with independent horror filmmakers / writers / artists / actors / effects people, etc.

Articles about artistic horror films and other visual art in the horror genre

Examples of your original horror art

March 2. Fright Night Theater presents The Big Bad

Book your calendar for March as Fright Night Theater brings more Indie Goodness! March 2nd at the Staircase Theater. 8pm. $5 for feature and short film~

Feature film we will be showing is THE BIG BAD made by the fine folks at Gotta/Enk. The Big Bad is a horror/revenge film written by Jessi Gotta and directed by Bryan Enk. Currently being shown in the film festivals it has won multiple awards including Best Director, Best Feature Writer, Best Supporting Actress, Best Special Effects Make Up, and Best Chill! from the Thriller! Chiller! Film Festival 2011.

Plot Outline taken from Facebook: A loner named Frankie enters a bar in a nowhere town, looking for a man no one seems to know… until a chance meeting in the ladies' room with an ill-tempered local lets Frankie know she’s in the right place. Frankie befriends this disturbed barfly and discovers they were both screwed over by the same man: Fenton Bailey. Their bonding is cut short, however, when Frankie shares a secret that pushes her new friend over the edge, setting off a night that throws Frankie face-first into a world where she doesn't belong. Frankie knows a bit too much about Fenton for her own good, and there are those who plan on keeping her from ever finding him. But Frankie is far more determined than expected.

A Message from the Host of Fright Night

This Friday Fright Night presents ...And Then I Helped and Day Zero. 8pm at the Indie Theater of the Staircase Theatre. A message from the host of Fright Night Jay Winger and his first meeting with the folks of MagGot Films.

I first met the crew from MagGot Films at Shock Stock last year in London Ontario.
It all started innocently just sitting down on an uncomfortable chair for the viewing of ….And then I helped. The film was a treat for me, since I’m not a big fan of the Big Budget Horror which time and time again continues to disappoint me.
When the Film was done I was blown away by all the deep meanings of the movie, which I will not get into so I do not spoil it for you. Things that will say about this movie is, it was of the Bizarre and the relation of people were deadly and the Cinematography was awesome in my eyes.

After the film I met up with Jesus MagGot and was blessed by this holy mascot of the film company and chatted it up a little with the director Micheal Maggot about the film and the deeper content of the film that I feel the average Joe won’t understand, but don’t let that deter you from watching this awesome Indie flick, just pay attention and after the movie we’ll get into the depth of it at the showing of Fright Night theatres presentation of …And then I helped with a short showing of Day Zero with a QnA with members of MagGot films.

This month also represents Women in Horror recognition month, The lead Lady of ….And then I helped is the Gorgeous Nikki McIntyre who has told me that this film holds a special place in her heart. Nikki is also well educated in film and special FX and did I mention she is gorgeous? Well yes I did and since this month is also dedicated to deadly love! You need to come out and see what’s so deadly about her characters love in the film.

At the presentation of ..And then I helped, I’m pretty sure we will all be blessed by his presence Jesus James MagGot and the Holy Maggot.

February Fright Night Spotlight: Day Zero

February 3, Fright Night will continue it's annual Valentines tradition of Deadly Love: your Valentines or Anti-Valentines night...depends on how you want to look at it.

February is Women in Horror Recognition Month: "Women in Horror Recognition Month (WiHM) aims to empower people all year long & all over the world to utilize and share their creativity with the intention of giving recognition to women working in all facets of the horror industry." HitH has chosen to show recognition to this event by shining a light toward the local zombie walks...anyone notice a trend? Hamilton, St Catharines, Toronto, Barrie Zombie Walks are all run by females! And pretty amazing ones at that. Honourable mentions go to Austrailia, France, Florida, Pirrsburgh and more. It is undeniable that women everywhere are running this most awesome annual event.

So! In honour of all those amazing women we play the short film Day Zero by Romario Shanchez. The story revolves around Jeff, who has a pretty good life. Great girl, cool car, nice home until one fateful trip to a petrol station everything can change. Especially when the dead have risen. For all Women in Horror we play a zombie short film that sure to be a fun filled flick with a great girl and a super car.

DEAR GOD NO! A brand new biker/horror/sexploitation feature written & directed by exploitation aficionado James Anthony Bickert. Shot entirely on SUPER 16MM Fuji film and using equipment from the era, DEAR GOD NO! is a drive-in & grindhouse lovers dream. After completing it's Ontario tour both in Toronto and London, Hamilton is very excited to bring in the party movie of the year to you!

Synopsis:
Outlaw motorcycle gang The Impalers tri-state rape and murder spree ended in a bloody massacre with rival club Satan's Own. The surviving members sought refuge in a secluded cabin deep in the North Georgia mountains. What first must of seemed like easy prey for a home invasion, became a living nightmare of depravity and violence. A young innocent girl being held captive may hold the key to the twisted secrets locked in the basement and the killing machine feasting on human flesh in the forest outside.

TRASH: A cheesy horror short acting as a throwback to 80's and 90's shot-on-video horror films by Candle Flame Films. What starts out as seemingly harmless pranks on a suburban teenage boy spiral into crimson chaos.

25 Dundurn St N. BESIDE the Staircase Theater Friday December 2nd. Come down to the Indie Theater to see this genuinely creepy thriller .

Synopsis: Tricia's husband has been missing for seven years. Her younger sister Callie comes to live with her as the pressure mounts to finally declare him 'dead in absentia.' As Tricia sifts through the wreckage and tries to move on with her life, Callie finds herself drawn to an ominous tunnel near the house. As she begins to link it to other mysterious disappearances, it becomes clear that his presumed death might be anything but 'natural.' Soon it becomes clear that the ancient force at work in the tunnel might have set its sights on Callie and Tricia ... and that Tricia's husband might be suffering a fate far worse than death in its grasp.

Production: "Absentia" is the inaugural feature film of Fallback Plan Productions, co-founded by Morgan Peter Brown and Justin Gordon. Initial funding for the project was achieved through an ambitious (and hugely popular) Kickstarter.com campaign, in which the film raised 156% of its stated $15,000 goal in 30 days.
After private investors stepped in to fully fund the project, the film went into production in June, 2010 and shot for 15 days in Glendale, Los Angeles, and Orange County, CA.
Principal photography was conducted with the Canon 5d Mii, and the movie was edited on Final Cut Pro 7.

Harvest Tide Productions LLC is proud to announce the release of “Microcinema – Improvisation Can Be A Killer,” a horror short starring Alex Lewis and Aurora Grabill and written and directed by Skip Shea.“Microcinema” is the story of Peter Martell, a highly educated well-to-do young man with a lot of free time on his hands. He spends this time watching snuff films. One day he makes the bold decision to cross the line from observer to participant, aspiring to bring a philosophical element to his own kind of snuff films. Ready to go to work, he tracks his first victim into a haunted New England woods, where the line between participant and observer takes a different turn.
